Day 2 was a long day again, slow progress with 35 miles. Cooler temps, steady climb and descent. Got chased by a cattle drive, sharpei'd and chicked some mountain bikers going uphill, sniffed the ponderosa pine bark- yes, Ed did that too!
Logistically it's been sort of awful, torturous, without a crew. More about that in the full post, later.
After a wait for some burgers at a roadside restaurant, picking up the car at the Dumont trailhead, getting gas before the gas station closed in Lead, and a trip to the grocery store before it closed at 9 pm, we had a 55 mile drive to Custer, checked back into the Rocket Motel around 10:30 pm, then got showers and crashed around 11 pm.
We discussed some ways to salvage this thing before it becomes not fun. More details soon!

Is that one of your Walmart leopard tops??? I hope you can keep it all fun! Do you have a favorite section of trail?
You bet it's a Walmart top, Kathleen. Nothing but Walmart...
The north end was my favorite. Cooler, higher elevations, mixed conifer and aspen forest. Very nice.
And fun...yes, we did keep it fun.
