Prerace day

Woke up to a sunny 100 degrees. Breakfast with crew, saw lots of old BW friends. Runner check in at furnace creek inn, Marshall gave us each a signed copy of his book. I saw my friends Bob Becker, Don Meyer, and later Steph and I went for an early lunch, and Ben Jones found us and sat down with us. Ben said he was on coroner's call for the county this weekend. Speaking of coroners, Nathan surprised the crew with this special gift, decorated by my niece Jenny, the 14 year old future pathologist, with the puke free zone logo in glitter.

119 in Furnace Creek Saturday

We got here yesterday after our trip with a bonus tour of Pahrump. Having trouble sending pictures through to the blog here, so will send text updates for now. Hope to find just the right spot to get better coverage. All is well though and it's great to be here!

Made it through WalMart

We managed to get through WalMart without being kicked out. Now we're on our way to Pahrump, then Furnace Creek. Ed shows us how to save energy in the parking lot.

Vegas

We're here, our flight was delayed 2 hours, but we finally picked up our van and are on the way to the hotel. It's only 96 degrees! Give me that parka! Thanks for all the emails of support and good wishes. Our agenda is food and sleep. More tomorrow!

Holy Haboob!

A taperworm of the most unusual variety...

Nathan, my brother, and our sole crew member from the Phoenix area, sent us an e-mail tonight letting us know he might be a few hours late getting out of Phoenix because of this massive duststorm that hit Phoenix yesterday. His pool and entire yard and house were dusted by this freak storm.

I lived in Phoenix a total of 10 years and I never remember seeing a duststorm this big. It has a name, "Haboob".

There's only one thing to do...bring the swim goggles!

This wouldn't be the first time I used swim goggles while running in the desert. I can remember summer evening track workouts in Scottsdale where I was glad I had my goggles!

The girls have been watching me pack. They have inspected everything and they have something to say about it.

Iris has the last word.
